I Gotta’ Say it Was a Good Day

“Today was like one of those fly dreams.
Didn’t even see a Berry flashing those high beams.” - Ice Cube

Yesterday was one of those days that just don’t happen very often. Call it luck, call it a blessing, call it good Karma. Yesterday was all of those.

First, I got up early because of the boy. He was fussy, but no worse than usual. During my early morning quiet time (he mellows right out once he knows I’m up and won’t get any more sleep), I got some grading done lickety-split. I hate grading. Any time it goes quickly is awesome.

After grading I decided to try to finish our taxes. Normally this is a chore, but upon completion of the ol’ 1040, I discovered that we are getting a massive refund from Uncle Sam. Thank you Podling. You are a welcome tax deduction. With this refund we will finally be able to pay down some nagging credit card debt that just keeps hanging around. Take that Chase Bank!

Feeling pretty good, I decided to venture out to take the dog on a walk. As I was preparing for our outing my friend Dave called and said he was coming over. This is a good thing because a) I haven’t seen Dave in a while, and b) it’s an excuse to drink beer before five o’ clock in the evening. David did come over a bit later, we did drink beer, and I got bit tipsy, but not so tipsy that I couldn’t solve the problem with some delicious and spicy leftover Schezwan chicken. Good friend, good conversation, good beer. Score!

The highlight of the day though, the extra icing on the cake, was the dog walk. It was a beautiful day. The sun was up, the air mild, and the dog invigorated. All was wonderful. But it was about to get better. As Daisy and I were making good time home, so as not to be late for beer time with David, what did I spy on the ground but a $20 Federal Reserve Note! Cautiously I picked it up, checking to see if there were any pedestrians in the vicinity that may have dropped this valuable morsel of currency. The pedestrian test was negative. Next I investigated the bill, to perhaps see if there was some joke afoot. Sometimes I wonder if I’m on a hidden camera show, so I like to make sure. Nay. No hidden cameras. So I pocketed the little economic stimulus package, thanked God and lady luck for such a wonderful find, and continued home. It just doesn’t get much better than that.

Now I have good days and I have bad days, but it is not often that so much goes so right in one twenty-four hour period. Man. “Today I didn’t even have to use my A.K. I got to say it was a good day.”
