No Motivation
14-Mar-07
This is the time of year when my 8th graders start to show early signs of eighth grade-itus. Basically the symptoms of this are a general lack of interest in school. The remedy usually involves me hollering at them, giving them more work than ever, and a fun project or two. This year though I think I have a bit of the bug myself. I am behind on my grading - even more than usual, and I just can’t seem to get myself in gear for work. The nice weather here in Columbus the last couple of days hasn’t helped, and the early switch to Eastern Daylight Time has me struggling to get up in the morning. Normally this hits me this time of year, but it’s bad this time around. I sit and stare at my stack of tests to grade, and just can’t seem to make myself finish them. My usual 50 hour work week is now closer to 40. A walk with the dog, or a beer, or both, are far more attractive. The guitar beckons to be strummed. How can I motivate my students when I can’t motivate myself? I guess this weekend I’ll just have to force my self to get caught up. Otherwise I’ll lose all credibility with my students. Man, where is Spring break when I need it?
