A Letter to My Senator(s)

The following is a letter I just sent Senator Mike DeWine. I also sent a very similar version to Senator Voinovich.

Dear Senator DeWine,

I am writing today about two somewhat related issues. First, I strongly urge you to oppose any and all legislation that would allow a “tiered internet” and to support “net neutrality”. I believe it is imperative in the interests of fair competition and equal access to information that the internet remain free and equal to all citizens. Allowing big telecommunications companies to monopolize the internet and to control who has what kind of access is not American, and would rule out the equal opportunities the internet now gives many Americans.

Secondly, I urge you to oppose Senator Specter’s S. 2453 bill, which would prevent effective judicial oversight of the NSA domestic spying program. I also vehemently oppose your own S.2455, which would attempt to retro-actively legalize the NSA dragnet surveillance. I am opposed to the NSA’s wiretapping of Americans’ phone calls and emails without search warrants, and I want this program’s legality to be judged in our traditional court system.

Very Respectfully Yours,
Tom Kersey

I should point out that the second paragraph was taken from a suggestion on the EFF’s website.
