Yesterday MLW and I saw Lady in the Water. Despite all the bad reviews it has gotten from the critics, I found the film to be an original, enjoyable, and ultimately uplifting fairy tale. I suspect that most of the bad publicity the film has gotten is due to the unflattering depiction of the movie critic Mr. Farber, well-played by Bob Balaban, and the fact that real movie critics take this a tad personally. But when you take the film for what it is - a simple, traditional fairy tale with a modern spin - you realize M. Night Shyamalan has done a fine job of producing yet another original and interesting story in a decade of sequals and remakes.
